Re: One that got away

In 2006, we beat Swansea away 2-1 in our return to League 1, having won the playoffs. How many players signed in the summer of 2006 played in that game? Zero. On April 27th 2007, we confirmed safety by beating Rotherham 4-2 at Millmoor and the following week we finished in our highest ever position...

Re: Dan Crowley

Quite. It shows strong leadership from Duff as well. He knows that he is under pressure to bring in faces and many supporters, especially on social media, were clamouring for him to sign Crowley. It would have been very easy to have thrown money at it.

Re: Dan Crowley

It's an interesting one though. If we are struggling, do we potentially upset the apple cart by signing a disruptive influence for the sake of improving the quality?

I think we tried and failed with that approach during the Allen era. Ian Westlake springs to mind for some reason.

Re: Callum Wright coming back...?

I think a lot of people are reading too much into an Instagram story!

I'd rather Wright than Crowley tbh. We know what we are getting. He would be an even player this season and he won't need any time to settle into the system.

Re: Dan Crowley

Oh well. For what it's worth, I think it would have been a massive gamble. He would likely have been a high earner and it is conceivable that he could have unsettled the dressing room baring in mind the various reports as to his temperament. A player of his quality would of course be welcomed. If Du...

Reminds me a bit of that summer under Keith Downing when we kept being gazumped by Scunthorpe. Think they took Martin Paterson and Martyn Woolford from under our noses? Shrewsbury have beaten us to Bowman and Nurse now. It is not surprising really given the similar systems we use. Very reliably inf...

Re: Hereford FC v Cheltenham Town

A bit of a shame really. Playing a game against lower league opposition with ten men for nearly all of it is not much of a fixture. It is good to see the strikers grabbing a few goals, however.

Re: Dan Crowley

Interesting. He might just be here for fitness - he didn't start. He is a very exciting player - low centre is gravity, close control, press resistant and has an excellent weight of pass. Technically, he's easily good enough for League One. I've heard some rumblings about his attitude but that is al...

Re: third favourites

I think third favourites sounds about right. There are a cluster of 8 or so teams who are the likely relegation candidates of which we are one. Hopefully our stability, excellent coaching and experience will be enough to keep us above the dotted line. When I think of teams who typically go down from...

Re: Elliot Bonds

Negativity is optional. This is arguably the best position we have ever been in as a club. We are far better equipped to survive in L1 now than we were in 2002 and 2006. Having fans come back could be a hindrance as far as we are concerned. It doesn't seem to take very much for vocal pockets of our ...

Re: I take no pleasure in this but..............

I have never understood the criticism that Martin Allen got for the financial management at the club during his time. The mess sits squarely with the board on that one I'm afraid - they sign the cheques. I think Paul Baker has even admitted that himself. Allen retains his Voldemort type status here ...

It obviously isn't.

That is not the point.

You have not come up with a solution. Who are we appointing then? You mentioned Terry Venables above. I don't recall him leading England to victory or even a final?

Re: Southgate failed as an England player...

Successful managers are those who meet or exceed expectations. England are not the best side in the world or in Europe, yet. We are still maturing. England were not expected to win either of the last tournaments and have reached the latter stages, that is success whether you like it or not. Southgat...

Re: Southgate failed as an England player...

I cannot agree with any of you. You win international trophies by not conceding. France and Belgium have better offensive players than England and remind me how they got on in the tournament? England lost on penalties. These are the margins. Southgate has led us to a semi final in the world cup and ...

Cashless - at long last! Only a decade or two behind the curve!

Please can we also move away from a season ticket book of tickets? It is naff and cumbersome. We should have cards at the very least by now. I should like to see us introduce bar codes and possibly even a ticketing app.

Absolutely. For the avoidance of doubt, I was expressing a completely personal preference. The club ought to focus on hospitality, absolutely. A very positive interview. A fan park is a brilliant idea and can be done very effectively. Could almost do a German market type thing with music, bars and s...

Re: Part 1: New Head of Commercial Operations, Steve Hobin

I must admit. I've done hospitality a few times and I agree with Shade. I find it subtracts from the experience of going to a football match. If I wanted fine dining, I'd go to a restaurant instead. I've found this a little bit with going to the pub to watch England matches recently. You can tell wh...

I agree. I suspect Moore has had a part to play in this as well. If Cheltenham are to sustain themselves at this level, they need to continue to invest in the right things - training facilities, data analysis, full time coaches with good credentials. This is precisely the type of thing Cotterill was...

At what point do we become worried?

About the lack of transfer activity?

Unlike most clubs we have not had to have a huge turnover of players, but I think most are agreed that we need to strengthen in some areas in order to be competitive in this league.
