Re: Teams around us - Thread to season end

After todays results we are no longer favourites for relegation! Bookies now have it with Port Vale (1/1) and Shrewsbury (7/4) to join Fleetwood (1/25) Carlisle (1/100) whilst we are 9/4 and Charlton 3/1.

“Set to report a significant loss for the last financial year, full details on the way in the coming days.” Not the news I wanted to read, thank you. Good gates, Goodwin sold, where did the money go? Unless paying off Elliot was expensive It will be the last financial year so Goodwin sale would not...

Re: Robins' amazing improvement

That's a fair point, Horteng, the pressure would've been truly intense...and GJ rebuilt the entire squad. I've often thought his incredible achievement was tarnished, in the eyes of many, by what followed. However, that should take nothing away from the bounceback season, which indeed was truly ast...

When it was first mentioned, I thought the hotel idea was some sort of joke. In Whaddon?? Now, a couple of HMO's, sure - I could see that. But it's not really the same thing. What about a development where the car park side is a row of shops and maybe a gym? A franchised food outlet, bookies that d...

Re: Robins' amazing improvement

What he has done is already amazing, I actually feel we might just stay up this season now after totally writing it off some time back. Assuming we do pull it off it really builds some excitement of just how good we could be next season, our form suggests we could go for our first top half finish wh...

Both Reading and Exeter are in a false position as whilst their points totals are very healthy they've both played two or three games more than everyone else.

Well done Shevates this is an amazing achievement and the job which you and your group have done is outstanding. As an aside, a thought I was having was could the 500 club potentially help fund electronic advertising boards like other clubs have? I don't know how much they cost but I saw Notts Count...

At one point SImon Keswick was the 9th richest man in English football. He apparently has an net worth of $1.75bn (net worth not necessarily a guarantee of liquidity of course). He's still one of the top 3 shareholders of the club of course. There are rumours he was driven off the board by comments...

Re: The board

No it doesn't but it would give us an asset which we can use short term for car parking space (less traffic on local roads would be favourable to the council I suspect) and it would mean we can build the new stand once funds are secured. I would suggest we can still buy the ground after building the...

I haven't checked the table but I think Wigan are already on 40 points, that means they only need three wins to realistically be safe and with sides below them well out of form I really cannot see them getting sucked into it now.

And what are the chances of us buying the ground from the council...? We tried too but it about 15 years ago but couldn't finance it at the time so ended up with a hundred year lease. Buying Cakebridge place land is far more realistic right now. Obviously the danger with buying the land is the club...

Exeter have played more games than anyone else and have patchy (albeit improved form), if there is a side who get sucked into it they look the best bet right now. Reading vs Port Vale tomorrow night looks a huge game in the context of the relegation battle.

Can anyone confirm that Whaddon Road actually is the smallest ground in League 1? Obviously, it isn't the smallest in the whole league - but is it in our division? Presumably in terms of capacity. Must be ourselves or Stevenage both are around 7000 capacity. Build a new main stand and increase over...

Re: Cheltenham Town v Port Vale

Form wise, we're playoff contenders since DC took over. Miraculous turnaround and just hope we can finish it off. 1.5 ppg until the end of the season would give us 54/55 which should be enough. I stand to be correct but I highly doubt any side has been relegated ever with 55 points. You have to be ...

Long way to go still but we might just pull this off :D That win has given me hope at the very least even the bookies are extending our odds as we are now 15/8 for the drop having started the day as evens. Thought Shepherd has improved after looking a bit indifferent versus Wycombe. Would love to keep Ferry but suspect he will get better offers if he's not already agreed a move.

Also noticed that Max Mata has been loaned back to Sligo from Shrewsbury Surprised by this - well, not surprised in that he has 1 goal in 20 odd games, but his release clause was significantly more expensive than Keena’s so maybe that’s just a loan to get his confidence back. 2nd most expensive pla...

Surely there is no chance Port Vale are paying anyone £7.5k a week that's Championship wages and they are not a club flush with cash and I would think have one of the lower budgets in this league. Re: 16 games to go

The best way to ensure we don’t have away fans in the CF is for us to get home fans in there - if we can build on this form and get the word out that we’re capable of pulling off a legendary escape, then maybe a few hundreds of the casual fans can be convinced to come be a part of it. The Colin Far...

Charlton are stuck in a rut at the moment but given their playing staff I fear once they get that first win a few others will follow soon after. Just look what Reading and Exeter have achieved after being neck and neck with us for ages at the bottom.

Bit of a strange game in that Blackpool were technically better than us with the ball but didn't appear to have the same level of desire or fight especially after the first goal went in. Unless Exeter stay up and offer him a deal I suspect he stays here one more year to finish his career. He seems settled in Bristol so unlikely to be looking to move so it's us or Newport who pay lower and are perenial relegation battlers inleague 2.
