I said at half time that whatever happened, it would be a proud day. They surpassed that and we were ten minutes away from pulling off one of the all time great upsets. No criticisms from me. They all deserve so much credit. Their second was offside too!

I won't sleep after that.I was just thinking , that I haven't felt that nervous feeling at 1-0 up since Ireland v England in the Euros in 1988 when I was 11.The thought of "this is ridiculous. Please hang on". I'm Irish by the way and I'm not having a dig.It was that feeling all over again.Doesnt come around very often...
What a performance this evening. As Duffer said, it is time to kick on now....

Even at 1-0 I was sanguine and expected City to win.
Had we got to 89 or 90 mins that would have been a different story.

I was the same - but we got that moment. That one time when we were more than holding on, we were winning!!RegencyCheltenhamSpa wrote:Even at 1-0 I was sanguine and expected City to win.

Very very well played Cheltenham, did your club and town proud!
Tougher Cup tie than United at Old Trafford the other week.
Ha, thought the same...there are premiership teams who do and will play more defensive and make less effort to attack us and Cheltenhem nearly got rewarded for it

I'll be honest. I thought we rolled over in all our previous PL encounters, Fulham aside. Not tonight, we were brilliant. We could have even scored a couple. I don't really remember Man City peppering our goal. It was a 10/10 performance.

Even if it does, that's the position we are in. If we are able to sell a few above their market value then that is great. We need to survive first and foremost.

Yeah, Azaz was quality and Clements as well at times. Often we find that ball players, flair players and technical players do better against top sides when the game is more suited to that than against L2 sides who kick shins and get physical.HamTown wrote:Things seemed to turn against us once azaz went off but he and everyone were outstanding
Hopefully the performance doesn't tempt other clubs to come sniffing for the standouts inc duff
We will never know if Azaz was fit to continue or not. It was cramp and he looked like he wanted to continue, but with no other midfielders Duff must have been wanting to protect him for the league.
We ended up with Clements and Thomas in midfield with Blair, Addai, Williams and May who knows where. Azaz may have closed Cencelo and prevented the cross...who knows.
Clements dispossessing and beating Mahrez in the first half was amazing, and Azaz’s little pirouette late on.
Long's lack of games shone through I thought, played the first and third goals on.
I'm not blaming him, I hasten to add, it was certainly not his fault, just bad luck and you wonder if he'd have been playing them on having had more than one appearance this season.

I think that is right. That's one of the differences - we are down to the bare bones and Manchester City can bring on millions of pounds' worth of talent.

Watching again on MOTD, for the equaliser we were just too deep. When the ball went to Cancelo, two of the centre midfielders were basically in the back line and had to come charging out to try and block the the cross but couldn’t get close.
For the third, I don't think anyone can be blamed. It was a "free hit" one down with a few minutes to go and City just started passing it around and made us chase shadows. We had to get the ball back to have a chance so fair play, we had players up chasing and trying to win it back. Rather lose 3-1 that way than 2-1 and just sitting in.
For the equaliser, I was on the edge of my seat and hoping and cheering but always expecting it. When it came it was just a "ahhhh...s#!t". When the second came it was "OFFSIDE! ahhh, well...".
But still all that matters was on 60 minutes. As I said yesterday, all I really wanted was a goal before we were out of the game. To hang on until the hour and then go ahead...I'm sure air wasn't the only one jumping up and shouting loud enough to alert the non-football fans in Cheltenhamshire that Alfie had just put "little old" Cheltenham into the lead.
Also, can you believe Laporte thought he was fouled by our Charlie? Barely any contact, let alone a push. Must have been embarrassment that led to him appealing to the point of being booked.

Just saw the player ratings in The Sun. Foden 9/10. Jesus 8/10. Mahrez 7/10. May 7/10. Tozer 6/10. Rest of the Cheltenham team got 6's or 5's. What a joke. But then they also said in their report that skipper George Lloyd utilised his long throw...

That's hilarious. I bought a Sunday Times and the formation was completely wrong.

Just seen someone share a picture of two double page spreads in the Sunday Mirror. One was a racing theme with the headline Foden by a head. The other was themed around the fireworks, and said our “dream turned into a damp squib” which is very harsh!
