Gloucester City AFC’s co-Chair has now become co-owner of Gloucester Knights basketball team.

Interesting development. To be honest I didn’t know the County had a basketball team. They are in the fourth tier with an aim to get to the BBL (top flight). Newcastle Eagles are the most successful team in terms of BBL league wins and play-off wins, so I have got to know about the sport more than I thought I would. The Eagles this season are now ‘best of the rest’ as the London Lions have outspent the whole league by a magnitude and won’t be stopped...at least the league is decided by a play off so a chance the Lions could be beaten in that one off game.

If the Gloucester Knights want to see examples of a good set up, then the Eagles Community Arena is an excellent model. A £6.5m 3,000 seater venue which opened in 2019: https://newcastle-eagles.com/news/eagle ... ity-arena/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Such a development would be a real asset to communities in Gloucester, and seems to match the newfound ambition of the owners of the Knights.

Good luck to Gloucester. Be good to see them up here for a BBL match...it is getting boring seeing the Newcastle beat the Cherry and Whites in the rugby every season so a new rivalry would be nice :lol:

I think this will be as successful as Gloucester Quays shopping center.
