A bold selection right enough! Would like to have seen Barber start but can't start two teenagers together in defence against League 1 leaders.
Slice of luck early on as a Cardiff player turns a cross onto the underside of the bar and out.
Annnnnd we're one down. From our own horrendous short corner. Archer's second abysmal pass in a matter of 3 minutes, and it didn't get any better after that.

Desperate defending; ran through two players...
Penalty won by Angol after a decent free kick into the box by Sohna. Ballw as battled for, Angol tripped from behind trying to control it.
Angol's penalty saved. Rebound put wide.
You couldn't write it. To be fair, it wasn't a bad penalty, right in the bottom corner, but the keeper got right across to it.
No doubt the lads are battling, just not enough quality. Another chance for Angol, but he can't beat the keeper from just inside the corner of the area.

2 down at half time, could be 4 or 5, and yet far from the worst half of football we have witnessed this season.
Archer is absolutely shot. No confidence, no quality, no good decisions. No chance of him being dropped now that Thomas is out, though.
God knows what Angol just got booked for. Replays showed the defender behind probably headbutted the back of his head, if anything.

Sky Commentator rather sympathetic to our 'plight'; but rather negative on our play. Not helped by that penalty miss!
Your right, Miller hasn't missed a penalty has he.
Barber and Mazionis at centre back with Bakare at right back?
How far away is Mazionis from a suspension? we could soon see Bakare and Mazionis as the only available centre backs. I saw Bennett might be back on Friday but he'll probably be injured again before half time.

And at 3-0 down in the 91st minute of a cup, Mazionis makes a desperate challenge and picks up another yellow card. I know he's only 19, but ffs, lad...
I believe cards carry over to the League, so he is suspended for Friday night - not certain.

I make it his 4th, so should be ok for Friday. Amazingly he wasn't one of the seven booked against Chesterfield.
It's painful to watch it be dragged out, we all know it's coming but we seem intent of delaying it a game or two in order to bring in more players.
If anyone went tonight they would have seen the same problems that have been visible since the end of last season, poor decision making, cannot take penalties, poor shape and organization especially from set pieces. The effort was there from most of them, they are trying but they seem clueless of what exactly they should do. A rather muted away end but quite a bit of frustration aimed at Johnson and Flynn.
Good grief, a bit of realism here. What exactly did anyone expect when they saw the side we had to pick, the bench we had to put out and against Cardiff, who are way ahead of us. I don't think 3 better players will turn us into world beaters, but any improvement that adds a bit of experience and class will do no harm at all.Robin wrote: ↑26 Aug 2025, 23:48It's painful to watch it be dragged out, we all know it's coming but we seem intent of delaying it a game or two in order to bring in more players.

I would say that is realism, it doesn't matter which side you put out that was terrible again last night and it's exactly the same issues we've seen under this manager. The same manager who has seemingly lost the entire fan base but whom the board seem intent on torturing by giving him another two games and hoping a few more players will fix.
Yes there were injuries last night but that doesn't mean your full backs are left two v one on multiple occasions, it should not mean you are reliant on your keeper to avoid a cricket score but it could easily have been six or seven last night. It was not Cardiff first team we were playing but their reserves largely but they have a manager who is organising them and they all work for each other. We have a team of individuals making mistakes and looking to hoof it at any given opportunity.
