A free to air article in the FT today, eviscerating the Government’s policy on lockdown and containment.

As you would expect from the economically illiterate like Johnson who don’t think in the medium to long term, we chased some short term gain which is outdone by long term pain. Ie rather than an early and hard lockdown, we tried to stay open for economic reasons; so rather than ending up with an economic hit, lower deaths and faster opening up, we have ended up with an economic hit, higher deaths, and slower opening up.

We have the second highest excess deaths number globally, and the highest per capita rate. And excess deaths have been shown to be proportional to lateness of lockdown. Earlier lockdowns created fewer deaths - see the chart in the article.

By Johnson’s own admission (quote in article) excess deaths comparison is what we should use to judge the Government by.
