They couldn’t see out the crucial ten mins after going 2-0 up. How often do we see a team go 2-0, only to concede within the next 10 mins followed by an equaliser almost immediately. See out that 10-15 mins and you generally win the game, fail to do so and you generally don’t. Been one of my golden rules of football for 20+ years. When we go 2-0, I nervously watch the clock and then celebrate like it is full time when the threshold is passed.
Too true RCS. I don't even celebrate the goals, either the first or second - I just celebrate wildly ten minutes after the second goal when the opposition have not got a goal back. Don't we all!
It's very tight at the top but 27th April still looks like the night.

I should definitely have taken those results.

2-2. Good result. Happy with both draws tonight.
It means, win our next two games and we are a minimum six points clear of fourth place.

Exeter lost, so that should put all but the last nail in the coffin containing their automatic dreams this season. Looking ropey for the playoffs too, but it might be a bit early to say that's dead yet as they still have a game in hand.

Plus they have to play four head to heads against other rivals, so plenty of opportunity to reel them in.Shade wrote:Exeter lost, so that should put all but the last nail in the coffin containing their automatic dreams this season. Gillingham won it in 2013 with 83 points, third place had 78. Be interesting to know if anyone has won with less than 80.Ben3 wrote:What's the lowest number of points accrued to win this here league?
Of course, we finished last season after playing the same number of games as we currently have one year ago, 36. We are one point better off than last season, and 4 places higher. 17w, 13d, 6l v 19, 8, 9. Better to have 2 wins and 3 defeats than 5 draws!
I think if this had been a "normal" season then we would be well into the 70's by now, those pesky extra Tuesday night games have generally been our worst. Swindon were top with 69 after 36 games at this stage.

What did Plymouth have? Would one extra point have taken us up on ppg? Useful to know if we are ahead of the Duckworth-Lewis, so to speak.Shade wrote:Of course, we finished last season after playing the same number of games as we currently have one year ago, 36. Crewe 69 from 37
Plymouth 68 from 37
Exeter 65 from 37
CTFC 64 from 36
I think we would have had to have been on 67 to have overtaken Plymouth on PPG.
One other note, most teams had scored a lot more goals at this stage last season, with the top three all in the 60's, with much higher GD. Ours was the highest GD (+25 compared to +15 this time), but because of our defence.

I do not believe that 81 will be sufficient. But as you say, time alone.Ben3 wrote:Interesting. I've got us securing promotion on the 27th April with about 81 points...of course we then may win the last couple of games and end up with 87/88. Time alone shall tell
Any, time wash the Mansfield shirt ahead of Saturday’s trip to Tranmere. COYS!
Bolton and Exeter have won. Tranmere, Cambridge and Morecambe are winning, against us. As it stands, we are dropping to 2nd, Tranmere level on points with us in 3rd ahead of our clash on Friday.

Wow, 45+3 for Tranmere. It looked to the world it was going to be 0-0 at HT. Sets it up nicely for next week...winner goes up?

90th min winner for Cambridge. Showing us how it is done.

Woopie, we got one late goal. Not even made up for all the ones we concede. That must be getting on for ten 90th min+ goals for Cambridge now.Shade wrote:As we predictably showed them how it's done when we did it at Exeter?RegencyCheltenhamSpa wrote:90th min winner for Cambridge. I think we will know if Cambridge and Tranmere are going to stay as title contenders by the end of Easter. Morecambe today for Cambridge and away at Tranmere on Monday.
Bolton 0-0 Colchester at half time, but Bolton have been dominant. Only a matter of time until they score, I'd imagine.

Wheat from chaff today, wheat from chaff.
Head to head: Cambridge 1-0 Morecambe.
FGR: Matt out for the season and 1-0 at Bradford.
Exeter: 0-1 down away and now no longer an automatic promotion contender as it stands.
Newport: 1-0 away. As it stands, four points off third with a game in hand.
Newport’s game in hand is crucial, as seen in the half time table:
Cambridge - - P39 70 pts
Cheltenham - P38 68 pts
Bolton - - - - -P38 64 pts
Tranmere - - -P38 63 pts
Forest Green -P38 62 pts
Morecambe - P38 62 pts
Newport - - - P37 60 pts
Exeter - - - - - P37 56 pts
Orient - - - - - P38 56 pts
Bradford - - - -P37 54 pts
At this stage, our five point gap looks significant.
With Morecambe still to play Bolton and Bradford, the three loitering outside the top seven could pounce. And, with Matt injured for the season, you have to feel that Exeter, Orient and Bradford will all overtake FGR.
