That neither confirms nor denies we were in for him mind.
I imagine James Norwood doesn't come cheap

Good find that but presumably he's more likely to go to somewhere like Morecambe who have lost a lot of staff recently.

It has been reported that he has a two and a half year contract so that is a big carrot.

Gives an idea of what we’re up against when a team that finished 3 and 8 points ahead of us in the past two seasons can be dropping £1m on a new midfielder (after taking our greatest ever player for £200k in the summer)

Going to be confusing if they get to play Coventry City!

When we used to play Cambridge City in the Southern League one of their players was called Ian Cambridge :D

£1M ? That’s a heck of a lot of money for a player that doesn’t appear to have set the football world on fire with appearances, goals or assists, and who has played mostly at lower levels/reserves. I think WHU saw CAFC coming. Time will tell.

If he does well and then Charlton sell him on for a big fee then it’s a good deal, not that we’d ever be able to do that.
If Ivan Toney moves on from Brentford, then Peterborough will make millions and millions.

He's got £10k at 2/1 that he goes to Arsenal this window.

How about David Ogbonna at Slough Town? Looking pretty good and only young. Probably not what we need right now though.

Been looking around and there is a played called Kasey McAteer at Leicester. Looks perfect for us as a loan, Go get him Russ!!
Mind you I have never seen him play!!!!!!

The highly rated 21-year-old, who has been with City’s Academy since the age of eight, made his senior debut for the Foxes in a 4-0 Premier League win over Newcastle United in December 2021.

He has gone on to appear for the Foxes on three further occasions, including twice this term, in victories over Gillingham in the Emirates FA Cup and MK Dons in the Carabao Cup.

McAteer spent the second half of 2021/22 on loan in League 2 with Forest Green Rovers, where he made nine appearances and helped the club earn promotion to League 1 as champions.

McAteer then spent the second half of 2022/23 out on loan at AFC Wimbledon in Sky Bet League 2. He furthered his football education with the Dons, who finished in 21st position in the fourth tier, before a landmark moment back at Leicester.

Now under Enzo Maresca's management, the Foxes started the 2023/24 season at home against Coventry City - with McAteer impressing in the Sky Bet Championship opener at right wing. Despite injury, he was back in the XI for a visit to Rotherham United later in the month and he scored both goals in a 2-1 win to send the Foxes top of the table.

He was on the scoresheet again a few weeks later, netting in a 4-1 win at Southampton, later also scoring in a 2-0 success at Norwich City the following week.

Kasey McAteer was a player Micky Moore wanted to bring here on loan but that ship will almost certainly have sailed now.

Probably right, he has just come on at half time for Leicester v Coventry. Looked ideal stats wise

Rumours that a defender and midfielder are close, hopefully we'll hear something today. Probably too late for a new player to be involved tomorrow night though (no idea what the registration rules are).

I wonder if the midfielder will be the Irish lad Sloggett or the prem experienced player...

Midfielder - tick

Well, it wasn't my guess of Freeman, but hopefully DC can get Harrop back to his PNE form. Sounds like he could be involved tomorrow night based on JP's article.

So, who's this defender then?

He came on for West Brom the other day - I don't think it's him somehow.

Would imagine the defender is someone who was on loan at league two or maybe SPL last season and looking to move up. Any sleuths out there? Anyone in the West Brom, Brum or Bristol City squads who fit that description?

Andy Smith at Hull, spent most of the last two seasons on loan at Grimsby

That's a good shout Si, also out of contract this summer so it could be an extended trial of sorts.

I just hope he's better than the last Andy Smith we had on loan... Wasn't that the guy we all chipped in £10 (suspect others may have put in considerably more) for a player Ward clearly never wanted in the first place and who clearly didn't want to be at CTFC any more than JW wanted him to be?

He refused to sit on the bench so went back to PNE if I recall correctly.
Like now we were desperate for someone to take the chances created but the loan was a disaster.

Yeah a crowd funded loanee who through a fit because he had to sit on the bench, his career nose dived shortly afterwards too.

DC confirmed we want two more after Kinsella and Smith - a striker (obv) and a left-footed winger... which surprised me. Is that so we could play a front 3 with Butler-O on the right? Hopefully they find someone who could also play upfront or LWB or it will be quite a niche signing.

Andy Smith is a comfortingly traditional name for a modern footballer.

Charlie Kirk a left winger is a free agent having left Charlton, had a few poor season but with Crewe was a major assist creator ?

That was also the name that came immediately to my mind and would allow us to play Kirk, Street or Lloyd wide of the new target man in front three potentially, i.e. if we are chasing games. I think we could do with someone who can turn a defender as we don't really have that in the squad but Kirk's career has largely stalled since he left Crewe all those years ago.
