Coming from the town centre to Whaddon Road, the Sudeley Arms is (I think) the last pub on the way/closest to the ground.
I've noticed that it has been shut this season, though in truth, the only time I was in it (3 years ago?), I wasn't impressed.
Anyhow it has been taken over by the Dodo pub group, a small independent chain of 8 pubs, including the Bottle of Sauce here in Cheltenham. My guess is that they're not particularly counting on football trade, so it will be interesting to see what they do come up with.
After refurbishment, it is expected to re-open in March, renamed as 'The Airs and Graces' (rhyming slang for The Races?)
A spokesman for The Dodo Pub Co’s said their "quirky, yet welcoming style" will be recognisable but Air’s & Graces will differ slightly from its siblings in its food offering. The menu will focus on its ever-popular Neapolitan-style pizzas with an increased variety of bar snacks alongside a unique garlic bread menu offering a selection of different toppings.

Might make for a decent stop-off point, to/from the game? If they allow footy fans in, that is!

If it serves beer and is close to the ground, it doesn’t really matter what it’s like, it’ll appeal to football fans. Especially when there’s a large away following.
The problem of so many pubs, and most close within a year or two of not making people feel welcome.
The landlord is not very welcoming, unlike Lisa, but it's still busy on Fridays and Saturdays.

Agree. Decent working man public houses are disappearing. Excluding the brilliant Wetherspoons, most drinking establishments are incredibly expensive. The old smokey pub serving a pint of mild have long gone extinct.Robin wrote:Sadly most traditional pubs are closed now, will another posh food offering style place no doubt so can't imagine it will appeal to the bulk of football fans.
Ooo...that's naughty... I dislike Arkells and go out of my way to avoid Arkells pubs - which is no mean feat, given where I live...Edam Nevada wrote: ↑25 Jan 2024, 10:44 And it is also charging premium prices for their so called craft ales !! When infact they are offering Arkells ales rebranded under Dodo
