So, keep smacking it long to two forwards under 6ft up against two giant cente backs surprisingly wasn't the plan DC had for the game. For me, none of the midfield engine room performed tonight, and that's the main issue. Defence battled and kept them out for 85 mins, the attackers had naff all to feed off of. No surprise we got a bit better when Bonds and Sercs went off and we got an extra body in midfield. Neither were anywhere near it.

The defence may have been resolute and put bodies on the line but it was their shanks up to the strikers which were our downfall, we couldn't win a header or hold the ball up, and with the midfield sat deep we weren't collecting the second balls. We were inviting them onto us and got what we deserved.
My biggest concern is we kept doing it despite no success, Street and Goodwin can manage that type of ball but Lloyd needs it in the channels and Taylor needs it into his feet or chest. The long balls are ok as long as it is the right type of long ball.

5-4-1 with flooded midfield and Joe N up front and work our way up field using midfield. At least against wycombes big defenders.
The defenders keep going long because nobody in midfield is available or, if they are, they were receiving it and then passing backwards. Bonds picked up the ball just inside our own half at one point with nobody within 10 feet of him and his natural instinct was to turn towards our own goal and pass back to Freestone, who then either goes long because he has players after him or plays it to Williams, who goes long because he's got nowhere else to go. Bonds could have comfortably turned and gone over half way and played a pass on the ground.
