I thought you might have started a win countdown until we're safe, but maybe you're right to wait and see how many we need for promotion...;)

Countdowns only start once it is known whether we will be in a relegation battle or promotion/play off hunt.

If we are a clear midtable side as I think we will be then we won’t need a prediction thread at all.

Far too early to tell in any case. It is usually Jan/Feb, with exceptions like last season or the Johnson NL season where it was known from about October that we were a title contender.

Even still...how many wins do we need until we are safe? If it's 51/84 in League Two, is it the same in League One? I'd guess at it not.

Hopefully 51/84 will enlighten us!

84 would make sense for promotion, but you'd imagine you need more than 51 points for safety given 4 teams go down.

With that being said, 21st place in recent years have had:

20/21 - 47 points
18/19 - 50 points
17/18 - 50 points
16/17 - 49 points
15/16 - 46 points

So 51 would be enough.

54 points the target in this league with four relegation spots. I think we should be aiming for the 58-60 points range this season which I would hope could secure our highest placed finish.

I always thought 51/84 was a second account for another fairly regular poster with a similar style of posting.

Surely we should be aiming higher than this !!!

We are used to having nail biting seasons when we get promoted to League One.
2002/03 relegated on the last day of the season. 2006/07 stayed up on the penultimate game of the season. 2007/08 stayed up after that famous win over Donny Rovers on the last day of the season. We’ll forget about the 2008/09 farce, at least on the pitch. The nail biting thing in that season was if the club was going to go into administration.
Onwards and upwards, in Duff we trust.

I think 65 points is a perfectly reasonable amount expectation.

I personally think it would take something major (losing key players or Duff) to get sucked into a relegation scrap, which would be disappointing.

65 points would see us finish top half that would be a big achievement in my view. Whilst I don't think we will go down I do suspect we will have to keep an eye over our shoulders this season and that will cause some fans to panic/boil over at times.

Yes , but we also came up via play offs.
I think we are better than that this time around.

52 points was always the generic safety target for League One.

Agree. I personally think our team is the best we have had in terms of how they play as a group. The likes of Boyle, Hussey, Sercombe and Wright are the best individuals we have ever had I believe, and I also think that in terms of tactics, coaching and fitness Duff is the best manager we have ever had.

All our players will get better week by week under Duff. I don’t think there will be any need to look over our shoulders.

Four points off promotion.

PPG trajectory for 59 points currently, which I think is below where we will finish.

Ten games later than the original post and we are still only four points off.

Only 11 points off the top and a seemingly hapless Donnie Rovers away on Saturday. Where's the ambition... ;)

Bouncing back after the Doncaster match and subsequent winless blip.

Just six points off the play offs now….with Wright coming back.
