Of course work will have been going on - Micky Moore is still employed at the club until the end of this week so he should still have been doing his job. And when he leaves, any gap between MM leaving and new person starting will be covered by Wade and other staff, I'm sure. Clubs coped before there were people titled "head of recruitment" or "director of football".

I would say lf course there is work going on. Mickey Moore, Wade and the relevant Board members will have been lining up conversations with targets for months. Wade and the Board aren’t suddenly going to stop and wait for the new person to start from scratch.
Maybe we should get a webcam in Wade’s office or phone tap the Board just so those on here who can’t go a day without a progress update can follow progress in real time.
I totally agree, I'd hope our whole transfer plan for the summer is planned out.
If that's the case, how much will the new head of recruitment be involved this window?
Seems to be a lot of noise about this. Not sure I buy it but Alfie has said his next move is for his family so a move close to home on a long contract with good money could work for him.
I know they have money but can they offer what we'd want?
Exactly. Why would anyone want to go to the arse end of the country in a league below when they’re in demand by teams in their current league and possibly higher?CTFCfan99 wrote:Doesn't seem to have come from an actual reputable source, just a load of fan speculation. I'm sure Charlton could at least match his wages and transfer fee so that would surely be a much more sensible option. He's better than Gillingham.
The arse end of the country - where he's from you mean? Where his extended family still live? Where he can double his wages (Gillingham are very much cash rich at the moment)?
Why would he want to go there?
I'm not saying that it is where he's going, but I wouldn't dismiss it at all.

This is how I see it. I guess we'll find out if his ambitions are to play at the best level possible or to secure his family's future and move back home.Si Robin wrote: ↑09 Jun 2023, 07:22 The arse end of the country - where he's from you mean? I'd agree Charlton seems like the better option, but if Gillingham are offering an extra year or two on his contract or £500 more a week then that could sway him. I guess we'll find out.

If he actively wants to go to and live and work in Gillingham I would encourage it…it removes the risk to other players of having to move there, which is a fate I wish on no one.

If he stays for another season and we do well the increasing gate returns and/or a good cup run could compensate for 80% of a transfer fee plus loss of the dreaded agents cut for a replacement. We also have decent ownership unlike Morecambe.
Don't know why a definite figure has taken so long to come out yet we've seen the £5k transfer fee publicised for years

Looks like Sercs is staying according to JP. Definitely good news if he does sign and a feather in the cap to have beaten off reported competition.
A new name to add to the mill, and another stiker - Aaron Pressley at Brentford https://www.footballinsider247.com/sour ... lead-race/
Can't see it personally, think they've chucked our name in cos we're in need of a striker or three. If Barnsley want him then I'd imagine that's the most likely destination.

Does seem to be southern based though and would he be guaranteed game time at Barnsley? Dunno. Never heard of him any way so I can’t give my 50 pence.

His dad Steven (ex-Scottish international) is current "Head of Individual Development" at Brentford FC, if that is in any way relevant. (Probably not, in truth lol)

I believe he is/was highly thought of by Brentford when on their "B" (Development) team, but despite loans to AFC Wimbledon and Accy Stanley, he hasn't quite "trained on".
Still only 21, and a big unit, so there's time yet for him to fulfil his potential.

bleak times
I see Gillingham have just nicked Jonny Williams from under Bradford's noses because he wanted to move closer to home, as the Welsh international is from Kent. Williams had agreed a deal and was staying in a hotel in Bradford ready to sign and do promo stuff the next morning when he got wind of Gills being interested...
Just mentioning it as it looks like we can't count Gillingham out of the Alfie race until the last moment.

Got to love these rumours. Whether or not there’s a grain of truth, this type of experience at the back alongside Bradders and Lewis, and to mentor our inevitable young loan, would be a very good signing.Warwickshire Robin wrote: ↑25 Jun 2023, 08:15 Saw this one this morning. Not a loan and you know what your getting. Experience. Had a few injury problems years past, but used sparingly what's not to like for a year. Guess he wont expect to start all games. Probably won't break the bank. His know how in helping the younger players for a season and get us established in this league and hopefully push on. Maybe find a young Caleb Type player to bring in to learn for a year as well. I'm sure Bradbury will benefit. Good size 6ft 2". Freestone and Long not that tall. We were spoilt with Caleb. He won everything. Can't remember anyone in the league getting the better of him. Will miss him.
If true its a yes from me...low risk.

Maybe for Player/Coach role? Also note Davies played with Wade at Birmingham so there is a link there.RegencyCheltenhamSpa wrote: ↑25 Jun 2023, 08:47Got to love these rumours. Would definitely be happy if he did join us, also would raise our profile a bit with him being a bit of a 'name' and does some EFL punditry.

Held Derby together. Love to see him here.
JP thinks it is a possible this week
