Really think we could have Pep Guardiola in charge right now and it wouldn't make a difference

JP has tweeted 'Abundantly clear from Kevin Russell's post-match interview that he does not want to be considered for the manager's job on a permanent basis.'

Betting for the next manager seem to have been removed from BetVictor.

Would imagine it's Artell then if he was there today, a quick appointment would do us good.

Would be nice to get some stability, but more evidence of the BS talked in certain interviews.

I did actually wonder if he applied!

Is Paul Groves up to much currently?

Watching Artell in the dugout, I always thought that he was a clown. 🤡

Then he got Crewe promoted and I thought fair play, perhaps you’re not a clown after all.

Following that Crewe get relegated and he gets sacked. Not sure how I feel about him now, but probably about all we can afford! 🤔

He was back at Meadow Park earlier this season with Buxton, on their coaching staff. You'll struggle to find a nicer man in football.

Unfortunately the cut throat nature of football means that a Steve Evans side will normally smash a Terry Waite XI off the pitch. Which partly says something about the soul of the game, but also about the former hostage's reliance on a 2-7-1 formation with Desmond Tutu up top.

Artell is a sideways (arguably backwards) step. He's as inspirational as WE in an interview.

Its a no to Artell from me.

Are interviews relevant if the team gets good results?

Right now he would have a higher work rate and score more goals than anyone else up front

He got Crewe promoted playing very good football, followed that up by a 12th placed finish in league one. The inevitable then happened and they had their better players pinched with no reinvestment.

Hes not my number one choice but he seems the type our board will go for.

Yep, and making copious notes* during the game. It does seem that things might be coming together.

Market is back this morning, Artell now evens favourite with Dean Holden and Graham Coughlan next at 6/1.

So much for someone being in the know about Coughlan getting the job.

And Clemence must have withdrawn his application. I am sure Robin can confirm.

Don't twist my words I never said that, go back and read again and I said someone must have got word of interest or was trolling. Not the same thing.

Also clear that money has gone on Artell given he was at the game yesterday.

Having looked at Artells bio he seems an intelligent manager.

Can he replicate his progress at Crewe.

Suppose it's a free hit as they say.

My only concern with Artell would be he seems to like playing out from the back and progressive football which could take a while to implement and might not suit this squad. Compare that to say a Cotterill style manager who plays a more limited style of play which is easier to implement immediately.

So according to the bookies right now Artell, Coughlan and Holden are the three favourites, who would everyone choose if they are indeed the choices? Think they all bring something a bit different. Coughlan would make us more direct and harder to beat, Artell good and coaching younger players, Holden had Charlton playing some nice football last season before their awful start this one.

This is a good point. I feel we can play out of the back with Southwood and with Bevan but it doesn't suit Curtis Davies or Sean Long at all, so it will depend upon the personnel and formation the new manager chooses. Yesterday I saw for the first time Sercombe and Hammond moving into space for the ball too so it can be done and likely was something Wade cautioned against in case we got caught out.

Also we have to look at the bigger picture.
At the moment it looks like we are going the relegated. Long season ahead and that might change but still it doesn't look good.
IF we get relegated we need stability in league 2. Artell has experience on that league and knows how to do well In it.
I just look at teams like Yeovil, Scunthorpe, Torquay, Southend and bury and it puts things in to perspective

Good point. Unless we are happy to change manager again the summer - which I think would be too disruptive - we do have to plan for the potential of L2 next season.

On playing style, if Artell is a good manager and coach he will play the best style for our players and situation even if that means moving away from more progressive football in the short-term.

If he can get us points now by hook or crook whilst also slowly developing a better style of play for the longer term then that is ideal.

Wonder what he thought of our performance?
Interestingly his profile shows he undertaken university degrees, and also had bans for expressive and passionate touchline behaviour!

Those on here who like “passionate” managers but are inverted snobs against the more educated ones will be conflicted.
