Apparently these are the football results the day after we went to war in 1939. Check out the Cheltenham score!

Also Boscombe v Northampton

To answer my own unasked question, Boscombe became Bournemouth in 1972.

I see Gloucester were above us when WWII started, but then didn’t return to the league when football started again.

Who knows, maybe if it wasn’t for the war, City would have grown to be the biggest and most successful Gloucestershire side.

"Gloucester City's chairman, the self-made millionaire and former postal worker, announces plans for a new stadium to help cement the ambitions of the League 1 club, currently sitting top of the league after 8 games , having scored 27 goals, already. Meanwhile, top scorer Christian Norton is being closely tracked for a January move to Man City."

Sliding Doors moment.

The were actually Bournemouth and Boscombe Athletic after the First World War and commonly known as "Bournemouth". Odd that they are referred to as Boscombe in the classifieds.

I appreciate this matter may not have been uppermost in minds they day after WWII started,

Dare I say... A club's heritage should (and does) matter to some of us. I'm also thinking that's why the 'Nest' began?
Take the p#ss if you like. Ups and downs... certainly hard to take, but it happens. I'm equally sorry if you missed the the last fifty years but it would seem you have loads of other things to look forward to.

Back to Bristol Rovers v Barry - it must have been the Rovers "B" team because they were in Division 3 South as well for the 39/40 season.

I've not given up searching for the result though.
