I always felt he had the ability to play at a decent level

Yes, things went badly wrong there.

A wasted talent, but his vile behaviour warranted prison. Not someone i'd want to see in a CTFC shirt again, sadly.

Should be in Div 1.He will work his way back. He has served time so let him pay some tax back.

Didn't he get into a drunken fight on a night out or was it deeper than that?

Basically, he/his mates jumped two guys outside a night club. Payne punched one in the back of the head, then took his belt off and beat the guy with it - literally whipping him with the buckle of the belt. I kid you not.

I still cannot believe Brighton away when the ref failed to give a blatant penalty after Payne waltzed round their defence, and then sent Payne himself off.

Still got the draw but could have won - another of the good battling performances under Martin Allen where we were unlucky and robbed, which had we had 1% more luck we'd have been a lot lot closer to survival.

That was a great game. Five goals scored by Murrays!
Robbie Savage tried to get the ref not to send Payne off, and admitted as much in his post-match interview.
Scott Murray's volley was a cracker, and still don't know where Gallers popped up from for the leveller!!!

It's amazing to think now but the very early period under Allen was actually quite exciting!

Very much so.

Two defining moments for me, without which I think we'd have had a good season.

1. Wesolowski breaking his leg. He and Westlake in the middle were amazing, but him getting injured started the panic buying and it went down hill.

2. The laughing ref against Doncaster who admitted seeing hand-ball but not giving a penalty which would have seen us play Villa at home in FA Cup R3.

I remember this great game and headline: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/footba ... tball.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The Brighton game was Wesolowski's debut for us, and that 4-3 Colchester game highlighted in RCS's link his second.
He then played in a 2-1 defeat against Scunthorpe (for whom Gary Hooper scored) before the Tranmere game, when his leg was broken by (Stoke's) Ryan Shotton.
Ian Westlake never played alongside him, he came later in the list of 52 players.
Tranmere of course was Rowe-Turner's only game for us, and the game when Allen decided to play Ridley and Lindegaard as wingers....

He and Westlake would have been amazing, apologies.

I remember Swindon away when the pouring rain made the A417 very wet. Westlake made them look non-league and we outplayed them for 80% of the play but errors elsewhere during the 20% cost us.

I'd forgotten Weso was yet another victim of the Stoke thugs - so many seasons and careers ruined by them. Thank God Pulis is gone now.
