If you think about how well African teams do at the World Cup...well most of them aren't anywhere near that, and a lot of the pitches are pretty terrible too (which is what that howler was blamed on as you can see where the keepers knee takes a huge chunk of pitch out and injures him as he drops the ball). Pretty much the only highlights I've seen on social media have been about controversies, like the ref who blew for full time after 85 minutes, got told it was too early, and then 89.45, despite having 3 VAR reviews, a sending off, and 6 substitutions. And we reckon the refs we get are rubbish...

The world rankings are skewed due to most teams only playing teams in their own region. San Marino are supposedly the worst side in the world but they only ever play other European teams. I'm sure they'd win against a couple of the African sides. Or certainly against some of the Oceanic-Asian island nations!
