Our first 10 league fixtures covering August and September.
What would be an acceptable total points return from the 10 games? ( this number being the number you think we will get)
What number of total points would you be 'over the moon' with? ( be realistic)
What number of total points would you be disappointed with?
Will post my numbers in a while.
Shrewsbury – Away
Bolton – Home
Reading – Away
Portsmouth – Away
Northampton – Home
Barnsley – Home
Peterboro – Away
Exeter – Away

Lincoln - Away
Our first 10 fixtures

Right now, I'd be quite content with 12 from that lot in all honesty. Over the moon with 15+. I won't be worrying too much if we only have 7 or 8, as the fixtures after that should be where we're picking up more points, but I think we can cause a couple of upsets there too. Really hope we get 3 points on the opening day, just because of how many ex-Cheltenham they've got there now. Off the top of my head it's 6.
However, game by game expectations and hopes will change.

The football gods have not been kind.
Let's be honest that is a very difficult first 10 games.
I think we can get 10 pts.
Would be over the moon with 12/13 TBH.
I'm hoping we are a surprise package this season.
Win a couple games early doors and who knows.
Reading are in turmoil...we always play well against Bolton...every game looks tough though in that list

Assuming we need 50 points for the season then that is 1.08 ppg. So round up to 11 points from the first ten games to be on track.
I’d be disappointed with fewer than 7 points. Over the moon with more than 20.

Over the moon with 18 points
Slightly disappointed with 10 points
Acceptable 14 points
Don't think the fixtures get that much easier month by month.
Guess it depends how Reading Barnsley and Peterboro start off with the changes they have made.
We know what to expect from Portsmouth and Bolton
We need to get points off the so called smaller/weaker sides which we failed to do some of the time last year.

11 points and I'd be OTM,
One or two wins from the opening 10 would be brilliant. My Reading prediction is based on them being a total mess at the moment. Reuben Selles might have got them much more settled in the next three weeks.

A good way of approaching this is to consider it like spread betting.
At what point would you pitch the spread to attract an equal number of buyers and sellers?
My pitch would be 12.5/13.5.
In other words my estimate is 13 points from those 10 games.

We have several more players to come in which will influence how well we do. Based upon current squad I would say:
Shrewsbury – Away -Win
Bolton – Home - Lose
Reading – Away - Draw
Portsmouth – Away- Lose
Northampton – Home - win
Barnsley – home- Draw
Peterboro – Away - Lose
Exeter – away - Draw
Stevenage – home - Draw

Fair assessment I reckon Robin.
We've lost three of our best players in Alfie, Caleb and Jacko plus Broom who was always one of the first names on the team sheet. That's four out of ten outfield players who have left.
Think they'll be four teams below us in April which is what matters I guess.
I'm going to monitor your eventual answers to see how close you get with your extra time monitoring our remaining signings.
I'm expecting you to be spot on!!
Am only joking. of course ...but pressure on ...we are all watching...he he

3 of the first 6 games are against new managers who could still be going through transition so might not be a bad time to play them
Agree we need to get off to a good start. Both the 1st and 2nd games winnable. Get the feel good confidence factor going.
A lot of the teams in this league have had a churn in players and managers which we really haven't. So hopefully we can hit the ground running picking up from late last season.bigdavejambo wrote: ↑25 Jul 2023, 12:57 3 of the first 6 games are against new managers who could still be going through transition so might not be a bad time to play them
Another thing I noticed odds for top scorers in this coming season doesn't included Keena!!!!
Big Dan at Bolton is 66-1. Maybe bookies never heard of Keena. Not saying he should be favourite but Big Dan to get more than Keena.... I don't think so.
Alfie is 16-1. About 6th Favourite.

Don’t shoot me (points in brackets)….
Shrewsbury – Away - 1
Bolton – Home - 0
Reading – Away - 0 (we generally lose in big stadiums)
Portsmouth – Away - 0 (always lose there)
Northampton – Home - 3
Barnsley – Home - 0
Peterboro – Away - 0
Exeter – Away - 0 (always lose there)
Stevenage – Home - 3
Lincoln - Away - 0 (always lose there too)
So a total of 7 points…. but it’s a tough set of fixtures and I think over the season we’ll be alright
Exeter ...Just to point out we won there last season and season before!!robinsrule wrote: ↑25 Jul 2023, 16:191985CTFC wrote: ↑24 Jul 2023, 17:10 Our first 10 league fixtures covering August and September.

Ha ha, must be my selective memory! But I’m sure we went on a long run of not winning against them. And I haven’t forgotten the 7-0 disaster last season….
Anyway, I’m hoping that my predictions are on the pessimistic side!

Just noticed that our first Big Game Under The Lights At Whaddon Rd Guaranteed Three Points isn’t until 29 Dec.
The EFL definitely have it in for us.

You're right. I can't remember the exact numbers but it's something like we won our first 11 League games versus Exeter, and then they won the next 7, but that run ended a few seasons ago.robinsrule wrote: ↑25 Jul 2023, 17:10 Ha ha, must be my selective memory! Damnit, I'm going to have to look it up, now...
So, we won the first 9 games between the clubs in the EFL between 1999 and 2013. The run was ended with a draw in April 2014. Exeter then won the next 7 games, until 2018. Since 2018, there were two draws followed by 4 consecutive Cheltenham wins (L2 title winning season and last season). However, since 2018 there have been the first cup/trophy fixtures between the clubs, with Exeter winning a Trophy game, a League Cup game, and a draw in another Trophy game.
Overall, in the EFL, CTFC 13 wins, Exeter 7, and 3 draws.

Re Exeter and others. Not sure looking at past results is helpful. The players and teams are different so past results don’t mean much.

I don’t quite share your full confidence, but I do think he’ll have a great season and that is too good a price to ignore.
Anyone else prepared to chip in to buy RCS a new house next May if Aiden doesn’t quite top the pile?
Longer odds than big Dan ..unbelievable,,,.just goes to show nearly everyone still sees us as a insignificant little club. Just hope we prove them wrong and start to get a bit more respect. I know we have to earn it. But we have punched above our weight these last 2 seasons.Broadway Brian wrote: ↑25 Jul 2023, 17:38Bet365 Keena 100/1.1985CTFC wrote: ↑25 Jul 2023, 15:09A lot of the teams in this league have had a churn in players and managers which we really haven't. Would love it just love it if we smash this league this year. Hmmm where have I heard that before?
