So JP missed the boat on this one or was deliberately left out in the cold!

The club announcing the first SC signing on their Facebook page but only a clue. Looks a young hand signing.

Not much in the way of goals though

Good to see any new signing with our current underperforming squad, but we desperately need a forward or two (or three.)
There will be plenty going on over the next few months.

Welcome news. And further evidence of “loosening of the purse strings’ under Mike Garlick?

A name I mentioned in the past couple of weeks as he's based in Warwickshire I think. Has lots of experience so hopefully addresses the need for a box to box midfielder. Let's hope for a striker up next.

More of a defensive midfielder from what I’ve read.

Had a good game and enabled us to play out from the back rather than kick it aimlessly like under Flynn.

Had been training with Notts county.....and other offers he had disappeared, seems decent, hopefully continues to improve with more match time.

Cotterill was saying he has room for one more.
I suspect that will be a forward (free agent).

The ex-Salford forward from last season is a free.

If you’re referring to Callum Morton, who ran us ragged in the 2020 play off semi at WR, his career has rather stalled since then. Injured for most of last season. Not sure we’d be going for him.

If I was SC I would be looking for a keeper.
That can kick

Wouldn’t say that’s our main priority at the moment

He was put under a lot more pressure with his kicking on Saturday as we were passing out from the back more.

He can kick sometimes though, a reminder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPOAlou1f-8 (turn off after 15 seconds)

Agree with this, would be high on my list for January along with a couple of strikers. Day was good last season but Saturday he was our weakest link due to his poor distribution.

Yeh and we’ll forget about the half dozen important saves he made….

Did he actually make a save? First half I don't think Fleetwood had a shot on target. Second half a few bobbles around the box but can't recall him making a solid save but granted it was down the other end of the pitch from me.

Fleetwood had 6 shots on target, pretty sure most were tame, but there was also the one-on-one he had to deal with in the first half where he committed himself and won the ball brilliantly.

Day had a good game in my opinion and I said as much to the people around me in the ground who agreed as well. One of his best in a while I thought.

I think he means Hakeeb Adelakun. Scored a brace against us. I think he's still a free agent and would be a very good signing but I think he's probably after League 1 or high wages. Might have to adjust his arms, though, still being free in October.

His handling and blocks were good. Anyone criticising kicking on Saturday did not notice that it was windy .Kicking and handling was difficult for both keepers.

There maybe another signing this week, not a position many would expect if it happens.

So not a striker then?
If not, it’ll be a keeper, defender, midfielder or winger!
Whatever, Cotts said it will be the very best player we can get for that position.

It might be CEO/ Director of Laundry. That seemed to be a demand from some fans.

No room for the concept that one does not preclude the other? Or is it your view that we are still in the world of where we can't handle two actions at once?

Apologies for misleading punctuation. What I meant was some might demand a laundry operative with a grand job title i.e. CEO Laundry.

He'd be an ariel threat, for sure - that should give us some comfort.

But it'd be a bold move.

I think JP has said that we have our sights on a defender.
Left back Josh Ruffels maybe , but just a guess.
Also as George Miller is a long term injury we apparently have another slot free for a desperately needed striker.

I've just listened to his interview on the official site, it seems we are removing George Miler from the squad list because he won't be available until January so we can make two signings potentially. A defender to hopefully sign by this weekend which was what I was alluding too. Steve says we are looking for someone who can play across the back four or five as we are down to the bones.

Also says we want a striker but we cannot find anyone who we know is fit and we won't gamble on injured players which probably rules out Callum Morton.

If we assume this is a central defender who can play across then Theo Vassell seems the most likely, aged 28 former Salford and Barrow defender. Has been linked with Morecambe and Oldham though so seems to be based around the Manchester area.

The only other central defender who comes up and was in league two last season is Kyle Jameson who was released by Newport so feels less likely.

In league one you have:
1. Angus MacDonald (32 years old released by Exeter) and can play central defender and right back.
2. Tyler Blackett (31 years old left Rotherham in summer of 2024 after their relegation from Championship) and can play all positions across the backline.
3. Aaron McGowan (29 years old turned down a new deal at Northampton this summer) can play all positions across the backline.
4. Akin Adamayo (25) released by Northampton and can play central and right back.

Presumably it's one of the above names.

Just sign a striker, Bickerstaff can't hit a barn door!
