Scott Brown to Aberdeen

Devastating. Fantastic opportunity for him - a chance to play top-flight football and to work with a goalkeeping legend in Jim Leighton. Can't begrudge him the chance, he's been nothing but loyal for a decade, even when Butland came in and he lost his place.
Mission impossible for Yates - he was already under pressure and now he has to pull yet another rabbit out of the hat.

Good luck Scott you did the right thing your career was going knowere here the very best of luck to you at Aberdeen.
As a Cheltenham fan for the last 15 years I'm disappointed to be losing Scotty, but as an Aberdeen fan since birth I'm delighted that we now have someone to truly challenge Clangers. In fact I think this must be the first time since I first came to Whaddon that I think Aberdeen have the better keeper, up to Yates to change that now.
Well we're certainly going to have a freshen up right through the team now! I don't see this as necessarily a bad thing, probably the best time for the club and Scott to move on.
I wonder if MY might be back on the phone to Connor Roberts, advising a new opportunity has arisen...

Gutted. A honest and loyal servant to the club, right until the end.
After the Northampton match, as he was applauding the fans he was saying sorry. We need more players like him, every player who puts on the Cheltenham town shirt to aim to have an attitude like his. It is something the club took for granted. Now as fan I'm looking at our current squad at players I can believe in, before there was plenty and now there appears to be very few.
A big summer ahead for Yates.

As much as I didnt want it to happen its happened
Who the hell are we gonna buy now!? Quality goalie and will be in the hearts of me and Cheltenham fans everywhere

Having been a fierce critic of Scotty early on, I am delighted that he proved to be a fine keeper, and wish him all the best. I wonder if he knew he was going when he blew the whistle?.
This really is becoming an important few months for Yates, the club and the fans.

I remember saying on here after the Rochdale game that I thought that might be Scotts last away performance. All the others legged it when the pitch invasion came but Scotty ignored them and made a point of coming over to applaud the Chelt fans. All the best Scotty, you have been a good un.

In your job if you were to offered a position like this then you would stick with what you have rather than have the chance to play in europe ok l get it your stuck in rut.

If you want to believe that is what you actually meant - why not just say good luck, you are better than FL2. No, you always have to have a dig at CTFC. He was going 'here', the same as every other FL2 player is going where ever they are. If they are good enoiugh they will move on, got nothing to do with what club he was playing for. If Aberdeen came knocking and we had lost in the play off final, I dare say he would still be offC.V wrote:confused.com wrote:C.V wrote:Good luck Scott you did the right thing your career was going knowere here the very best of luck to you at Aberdeen.

Read the first TWO WORDS GOOD LUCK.Are you disagreeing this is not a good move then do you really think he would get the chance to play in Europe here???.Christ some people are so argumentative
We need more than just a first team goalkeeper. With getting rid of Harvey Rivers as well I make that 0 goalkeepers on the books that are of age....apart from the 40-something year old coach, of course...Robin wrote:A little surprised he is not staying as don't see Aberdeen as a significant jump up, clearly been in the pipeline though. All the best Scotty - Chelt will be a poorer club both on and off the pitch for your departure. I know no player is bigger than the club, but Brown showed in his commitment, passion and pride in playing for Chelt just what it meant to him. I don't begrudge his move to an SPL club ar all - You never know, could see Scotty in the Champs League in 2015/16 - Awesome!

Good luck to Scott at Aberdeen, going to be a big hole to fill but nobody can begrudge him the move to Aberdeen
It was on the cards after his revelations about players not trying, that’s life in the modern world if you are a witness to someone breaking the law you are a grass if you report them, it was said on here anyone that dobbed someone in for setting off a flare in the ground would be a grass, being of an older generation I don’t go along with it but the ideology of the young people seem to live by these rules.
Whereas McGlashan would have inevitably been tagged lazy at sometime during the season and he knew it that’s why he went, Brown I’ve no doubt would have been given the tag of grass by some of his peers, and what was Yates real reaction behind closed doors after Brown broke cover, did Yates treat him the same we will never know, still PB has put his faith in Yates so it’s now up to him to deliver, no pressure!
Good Lucky to Scotty it’s not a bad move but I have a feeling in different circumstances he would have rather stayed.

Thanks Scotty you proved your critics wrong

Had a feeling for quite a while Scotty would leave. Good bloke and a decent keeper, he definitely deserves his chance at Aberdeen, hope it goes well for him.
Shocked by this news but cant hold it against Scott he has been a model pro here and deserves a crack at a higher level of football.
He bided his time and was rewarded with becoming the #1 he always gave his all for the club and fans and always had time to chat with fans before and after games.
Good luck Scottie

Sorry Robin, dont wish to pick on your comments but whilst I accept the SPL is not strong throughout, he is joining a club who came third, averaged over 13000 and are now in Europe. Do you not regard that as a jump up?Robin wrote:A little surprised he is not staying as don't see Aberdeen as a significant jump up, clearly been in the pipeline though. Yes, he has competition to be number 1 but after a long time here I think it is a good opportunity and you do see some players do well in Scotland and then move back to England one or two leagues higher.
As for Scotty, will be very tough to replace. Credit to Booky too as Brown became one of our most reliable players over the last few seasons and genuinely improved in his time here - unlike many others!
On the plus side, as someone else said keepers are one of the easier positions to recruit for and will be interesting to see who he goes for. They have big gloves to fill.
